It depends what type of court and what type of documents you are looking for. The Virginia Courts Information System covers the four levels of courts in Virginia (general district, circuit, Court of Appeals, and Supreme Court of Virginia). General district and circuit court information must be searched by the county in which the matter was heard, and is separated by criminal and civil matters. The Court Information System does not include copies of documents in cases, but they may be obtained by contacting the appropriate court clerk's office. The Court Information System does include the names of the parties and their attorneys, the criminal code citation the defendant is alleged to have violated, the dates of any hearings/trials, a list of the documents filed with the court, and the outcome of the case.
