Forties fashions brings to mind images of Rosie the Riveter’s tough overalls and Katharine Hepburn in suits with padded shoulders. To learn more about styles popular during this time period, we searched on “WWII fashion” and found several sites featuring the many faces of women’s fashion during the war. Rationed Fashion gives an overview of what American women wore during the war years. This site explains how the U.S. government’s L-85 guidelines in 1942 restricted the quantities of cloth that could be used in clothing, greatly impacting the styles of the time.
