” The tale can be found in most collections of the stories collected by the Brothers Grimm, as well as in Andrew Lang’s The Blue Fairy Tale Book. I am fond of the illustrated version by Barbara Cooney, still available in many libraries.I’ve collected some links to on-line sources, which you can access by clicking here. I use quotations from the “original” story in my book at the beginning of each chapter, to tie my story in more closely with the fairy tale.
