Where did hot dogs get the name “hot dogs”?

Hot dogs were sold from hot water tanks as vendors shouted, “Get your Dachshund sausages while they’re red hot!” Sports Cartoonist Tad Dorgan sketched a cartoon of barking dachshund sausages nestled in warm buns. Unsure of how to spell dachshund, he simply wrote “Hot Dog”. The cartoon was a sensation and the term “hot dog” was born.
