Modern Judo is based on several traditional Japanese martial arts, but mainly jiu-jitsu. The father of Judo is Professor Jigoro Kano (1860-1938). In 1882, Dr. Kano made a comprehensive study of these ancient self-defense forms and integrated the best of these forms into a sport which is known as Judo.
