Where do cold sores usually appear?
Cold sores most often occur in the mouth area usually on or around the lips. Less commonly, cold sores can occur on other parts of the face such as above the mouth, on the nostrils, on the cheek or on the chin. Cold sores can also appear on the fingers. Cold sores do not usually occur in the mouth. But if they do, they form on the roof of your mouth or the gums. These sores are not to be confused with canker sores, which occur on the inside of the cheek, and are not related to the HSV-1. When cold sores reoccur they will mostly appear in the same location that they did during the previous outbreaks.
