Where do dropped butts end up?
• Because cigarette butts are small and light they are easily blown from place to place or washed into the storm-water system which carries one in every ten cigarettes dropped into the bay or waterways • Cigarette butts make up approximately one third of the one billion items of litter finding its way into Melbourne’s waterways each year • A round 350,000 butts are washed into Port Phillip Bay each year.
