Where do I search for Wills, Divorces, Criminal Records, Fictitious Business Name Statements/Licenses, or Marriage Licenses?
Wills are not recordable in California (they may be filed with the Clerk’s Office). Divorces are handled in Superior Court in the county in which they occurred. Criminal Records are usually kept by the Sheriff’s Office. Fictitious Business Name Statements are filed with the Clerk’s Office. Fictitious Business Licenses are usually filed with City Hall. Marriage Licenses are given by the County Clerk’s Office.
