Where do pies and pasties fit into the Right Bite Strategy?
Pies, pasties, sausage rolls and other savoury pastries should be considered individually, based on their nutrient criteria. Most of this category of foods will fit into the Red (Occasionally) category as they are very high in saturated fat, salt and total kilojoules and so should not be provided. However, some may be made with low fat pastry, lean meat and extra vegetables and may fit into the Amber category. It is still important with these types of foods to consider portion size and the frequency with which they are made available.
