Where Do Redwood Trees Grow?
Redwood trees are also called Coast Redwood. There’s an area approximately 500 miles long and 20 to 30 miles wide along the California coast where many redwood trees grow. Northern and north central California redwood trees are the tallest trees you can find on earth. Some have been measured at over 375 feet. California redwood trees reproduce by small seeds. As soon as the seeds fall to the ground, they are ready to germinate as long as the seedbeds are moist. Soil moisture is very important for seedlings to survive. Redwood trees grow quickly in the beginning stages. Too much shade can slow the growth of redwood seedlings. Few of the millions of seeds are productive or fertile. Redwood trees are mature on average between 800 to 1,500 years. Reproduction also takes place by stump sprouting. The top of the Coast Redwood tree has small leaves.
