Where do you place the padded knee strap for effective control and alignment of the knees?

A retaining strap for the knees in a standing device should never be placed directly over the kneecap, but either above or below. With a lower to normal tone individual (lower extremities) we recommend placement directly below the kneecap, with a slightly upward-angle pull toward the rear of the backboard to where it is fastened, (perhaps 15° or so above horizontal). With higher voluntary or involuntary tone in the lower extremities, or the presence of tight hamstrings, a single strap is better positioned directly above the kneecap, with a strap angle perpendicular to the thigh in the fullest extension achievable. This perpendicular angle is for maximum mechanical advantage of the strap, as well as the comfort of the client, (so strap edges do not dig in because of an oblique angle of pull).
