Where does cholesterol come from?
Significant amounts of cholesterol are found in meat, egg yolks, dairy products, offal and shellfish. The amount of cholesterol in the blood is not directly determined by how much cholesterol you eat. In fact, in some people there seems to be no relationship at all. Blood cholesterol levels are mostly determined by other factors including genetics, saturated fat intake, body weight and activity level. However, it is important that you are aware of sources of dietary cholesterol. If you have high levels of cholesterol in the blood, reducing the amount of cholesterol that you eat may help.
