Where does the bobcat live?
Bobcats can be found in forested and mountainous areas of the Bay watershed. The only habitats they have been shown to avoid are highly developed areas or areas with dense human populations. Bobcats are solitary, mostly nocturnal animals; during they day, they remain hidden and are rarely seen. They are also very territorial, marking their home range with urine and feces. A female’s home range can extend from two to 40 square miles, rarely overlapping with that of other females. However, a male’s territory may overlap with that of other males and contain female territories. What does the bobcat eat? Bobcats use their excellent hearing and vision to hunt during dusk and after nightfall on small birds and mammals, including rabbits, hares, mice, squirrels and small white-tailed deer.
