Where does the funding come from to build a Habitat for Humanity house?
Most of the funding for Habitat for Humanity homes comes from individual, business, and corporate donations. Fundraising events also occur several times throughout the year to help raise capital resources. These events include the Carpenters Ball in early spring and the Red Sky Golf Tournament in early fall. Partnerships with neighborhoods and churches are also a significant source of support, including volunteer labor as well as financial support. In addition, funding or land may come from developers who are trying to fulfill their affordable housing requirements. Bequests or honorariums are often made by family or corporate trusts on behalf of Habitat for Humanity, and grants are also often garnered from various sources. Lastly, hundreds of volunteer hours, including those donated by the homeowners themselves, are invested in each Habitat for Humanity house, bringing the total cost of a house well below market-value for the area.
