The conceit of Tim Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ is that Alice, having visited ‘Underland’ in dreams during her early childhood, is now a grown up woman at 19 iv Victorian England and is getting ready to be married to a Lord. And Alice, played by newcomer Mia Wasikowska is not happy about that one bit. Alice is the archetype modern version of the Victorian lady, the “Girl Who Knows Her Own Mind”, rare in the actual period, but prominent in 21st Century depictions of the same. She wears neither a corset (good for her) nor stockings (not so good, as a shapely female leg is always enhanced by a silk stocking.) A strange mutant of a movie that ambitiously tries to ramp up the suspense factor of the surreal by fusing Lewis Carroll’

It appears that in the latest era of 3D films, James Cameron’s, ‘Avatar’ has been totally side stepped by Tim Burton’s, ‘Alice in Wonderland’, a modern adaptation of tales by Lewis Carroll. “Alice in Wonderland”, has been so superbly cinematographed in the 3D version that “Avatar”, looks like baby stuff. Ever since Alice in Wonderland trailers started playing, the movie generated a lot of buzz. Filming a 3D subject can be quite tough and the outcome is not always perfect what with the objects losing their original form when they get away from the camera. But Burton has very diligently dealt with this prospect by bringing variability to other movable forms leaving the total effect to enhance Alice’s expressions significantly.
