Mt. Everest is the highest peak only above sea level. If you want the 2nd highest peak above sea level, its Mt. K2 or Mt. Godwin Austin, as itscommonly called. But if you want the highest mountain peak in the world considering its height below sea level as well, then its Mt. Mauna Lea in Hawaii, with an overall height of 10,500 odd metres. More than 4 kms of this peak is under sea level. So, considering overall height, Mt. Everest is the 2nd heighest in the world.
