Where is the Best American Food in Oakland, California?
This charming European restaurant provided the perfect setting for my son and daughter-in-laws wedding rehearsal dinner. The owners we very helpful and available to me in planning this event. The list of food options for the individualized event menu were extensive providing something for all diners. The wait staff was pleasant and interactive. My only suggestion would be that waiters be a bit more attentive to the tables between courses to be sure guest requests, drink orders etc. are readily addressed. The food was delicious and presented well. Many positive comments about the food by all in attendance. I would recommend Le Bateau Iver to anyone planning a dinner or banquet event.
The location and outdoor seating alone for this place earns it 3 stars, I am going to tell you this straight up. I am biased towards places with outdoor seating and plenty of sunshine. This place has it, and is in a spot where 90% of the time it’s sunny. Because of that, I already liked the place before I sat down and before I ordered anything. So I am biased and even if the food was horrible, it would have to be really bad for me to not come back. That said, here is how the food was: For lunch, we went with the prix fixe menu because as our server explained to us, for 3 courses, we essentially only pay $2 for the 3rd course which is dessert, and who doesn’t ever want dessert. I went with the mozzarella and tomato salad, the salmon and beans entree (it was described in a much nicer way, of course I am ruining the description here) and then the bread pudding with caramel ice cream. Rudy?s is a meticulously crafted establishment, from its name (taken from a song title by The Clash) to its menu (a plethora of consistently delicious items for breakfast, lunch, and dinner) to its decor (kitchy resin-coated tables, and an army of wall-mounted barbies dressed in Rudy?s uniforms). This is the perfect last stop for a weekend night out, or the perfect hangover remedy (after a weekend night out). The hash browns are heavenly, the cornmeal waffle is delicious, and the ?deuces wild? is the grown-up sister of the classic diner breakfast. Aside from the traditional fare is a handful of ?bay area?-esque alternative options like vegan hot cereal, 2 kinds of vegetarian sausage, and my favorite, the ?soyrizo scramble? (vegetarian chorizo scrambled with eggs, corn, and black beans ? topped off with sour cream and guacamole?awesome!). Beautiful room, excellent and professional service, beautifully plated and delicious food. Expensive. Bar could use improvement, as the cocktails were not as good as I am used to, especially in this type of restaurant. I will order wine next time. Did enjoy the experience though and would return for the service and food alone.
Pyramid beer is fantastic. I guess if you drink enough of it, you won’t notice that the food here isn’t equally as tasty.I had the Fish & Chips. Usually, it seems that the fish used in most Fish & Chips is pretty bland. The fish Pyramid used was darn near tasteless, and the breading came off when I tried to cut the fillet. The fries were ok…nothing out of the ordinary.I’d like to go back and see if other dishes are better as this first experience was totally unimpressive.Pros + great beerCons – food needs help
