Where is the Best Barbecue Food in Nashville, Tennessee?

We had never been to this restaurant and we stopped by on a whim. Both of us ordered the pulled pork with two sides. I had the baked beans with potato salad and my companion had steamed cabbage with macaroni and cheese. The baked beans were delicious, the macaroni and cheese tasted homemade, the steamed cabbage was flavorful; however the potato salad was good but lacking something. The pulled pork was AWESOME, it did not need sauce because it was so tender and flavorful. It is a good thing it did not need sauce because the mild sauce (on the table) was bizarre in flavor and the Habanero sauce was WAY to spicy for me. My companion ate the Habanero sauce and had sweat rolling off their nose. The server was WONDERFUL and we never lacked for refills. We did not have to ask for anything, it was just automatically provided. Pros + Can’t get enough of those muffins!Cons – The sauces, but it doesn’t need it either.

Excellent, mild-flavored, not-to-sweet, not-to-hot barbecue. Tender, melt-in-yer-mouth meats carefully trimmed, without a hint of fat or gristle. I enjoyed the pulled pork plate which came with 2 sides of my choice. I chose homemade yellow-mustard cole slaw (absolutely delicious) and homemade potato salad. Fast, no-nonsense service from the kitchen. Basic, clean dinin’ room with a roll of good, thick paper towels on each table.

I have grown up around Whitts BBQ’s and as much as I do like TN Whitts BBQ, I prefer going where it started in Athens, Alabama for some great BBQ. It is a little drive down there but if you like Whitts you have to try it at least once. I also recommend getting the “white sauce” put on your turkey sandwich if you do go down there.

Famous Dave’s has great food and generally good service but sometimes the rib tips and other barbecue items seem to have been sitting out for a while. My experience has been that when it comes to bbq, timing often determines how good the food is going to be. The same goes for Chinese buffets. There have been a few times when the meat was tough and had a bit of an off taste, the fries just warm and saturated with oil, and the wings were dry and loose in the skin like they had spent some time under a warmer. Kind of sounds like I don’t care for the place right? Wrong! When the BBQ is good, it’s really good, They simply have the best side salad that I know of in the whole area, and there are a few of their servers that are the personification of professionalism in a restaraunt of this type, and a couple that aren’t, although they seem to cycle out pretty often. Overall, this is one of our favorites, and we don’t anticipate that changing any time soon. It would be nice if they paid a littl

Good barbeque, in general. But don’t get it to go. I got a side of fried ocra. They packaged it in a plastic container sealed with a lid. Guess what I got when I got home…Mushy ocra in mushy crust. It was really disgusting. They’ve been around for years, so I’m really suprised that they haven’t figured this problem out before. I called the store and spoke with the manager, Dale, and he said that he’s never had a complaint about that before and they always package the ocra that way. Well, I’m guessing that no one else wanted to take the time to complain that their ocra was mush. But, I’m not in the business of throwing money away and when I order a side, I expect to get what I paid for.
