Where is the Best Business Dining in Austin, Texas?
My friend and I happened across Houstons quite by accident. As we parked and walked up to the resturant the smell was intoxicating. Walking in we were promptly greeted and had a drink at the bar as we waited for a table. We were told to expect about a 20 min. wait but were ready to be seated in less than 10. The lighting is dark and cozy with touches burning throughout…what to make a good impression? Everyone looks great in this lighting. I had on a pair of jeans and a blouse and was rather casual but it did not make me feel underdressed in any way although if I had dressed up that would have been great is well. The food…omg…the steak was amazing..I think it was hickory? but the flavor was well worth it. Not a lot of extras served other than potatoes but you can add sides if your appetite desires more. What you get for the money….Ambiance…very tastefull food…great wines…and accomidating service….better wine glasses, china and silver….a nice suprise will definately go
The ambience is wonderful, the service is great and the food is excellent. We will go back in a heartbeat. It is so nice to have this quality of restaurant in Austin!The portions are very big. We thoroughly enjoyed everything, although the minestrone is a bit thicker than is classic and had no legumes. The salad dressing and all the sauces were excellent and rich; The boar shanks were so tender they melted in your mouth and the pork chop was thick and juicy with a fabulous marsala sauce. With a bottle of wine and tip (no dessert or coffee) we spent $75, but could have ordered much less and left full.Pros + Great happy hourCons – no parking
Online reservations, great, but when I called to confirm I spoke with a very unfriendly, young male host. That should have tipped me off to the level of service I should expect. Bar service took too long, waiter took even longer. Drinks during dinner took far too long and several were just plain forgotten! The menu is deceiving, it looks like a delicious assortment but it’s all rather bland. The food is not fresh, it’s thawed. From the ceviche to the mango salsa I was consistenly disappointed. I’ve been to several South American restaurants and this one is by far the least impressive. It’s as if Chili’s opened up a Latin chain, making it overpriced for what it is. My fiance and I went here on a Sat. night on the recommendation of the hotel that we were staying at. We were seated right away but it took our waitress about 5 minutes to greet us. After she finally showed up she must have taken another 5-7 mins to come back with our drinks. As usual my fiance hadn’t made up her mind on what to get on the menu which turned out being a 15 min smoke break for our waitress. I exaggerate on the smoke break part but not at all the time that it took for her to get back to us to take our order. The food however made up for the lackluster service. For the appetizer we had the tuna tartar which was exceptional. For our entrees I had the flounder special which was heavenly while my fiance had the halibut which was also good, but not nearly as good as the flounder. I would go back, but perhaps next time I’ll get it to take back to our room.
The ambiance was magnificent and the prices were appropriate. The beef medallions were wonderful. We received good wine advice and it complemented the meal very well. The music and lighting set a lovely romantic mood. The service had an excellent pace. Everyone was as accommodating as always. I enjoyed every aspect of the evening. Pros + Food, ambiance, service.Cons – Music too low.
