Where is the Best Comfort Food in Atlanta, Georgia?
With a simple all american fare like garlic mashed potatoes and calamari makes this a great place to go for snacking or a full meal. I always have a taste for something, and they do a great job with fairly routine stuff. The service is always excellent, and it is never too busy. I really like it as a meeting place, because it is quiet enough to talk and yet busy enough so we do not feel isolated. Anytime I am around buckhead, or east of Piedmont, this is one of my first suggestions for a place to meet. It is like a waffle house, but really up-scale, better food, service, atmosphere, everything. So for a waffle house kind of guy, except I would rather run into people with my kind success, this diner is the place to go.
If you like southern cooking, this is the grand dame! It might be getting a bit tired around the edges, but there is nowhere like in and it is a great throwback to real southern restaraunts. The food is spotty, so stick to the tried and true – Grits, Fried Green Tomatoes, Fried Okra, Fish, Chicken – in other words “the good stuff”. The Sweet Tea is the way it’s meant to be south of the Mason-Dixon and the fried green tomatoes are just right! We love it with all it’s warts and all – like your favorite aunt who is past her prime but still a joy to visit with.Pros + A True Southern Gem
I have been to the OK Cafe about 3 times and the food was excellent! However, the last time I was there both the Meatloaf and the Pot Roast was horrible. The Meatloaf that use to have a meaty and hearty texture tasted like it had too many fillers and not enough meat. The Pot Roast was dry, stringy and tough. I don’t know whether or not they have new cooks, but compared to my visits before this, I was surprised and very disappointed. Especially so, because I had raved about it so much to my friends and brought a guest with me. She said she never wanted to go back. Ok Cafe: For the sake of customers like me, who love to cook and know what good food is suppose to taste like, STEP IT UP!
I feel bad writing this, but Roasters has had poor service and several staff changes that have made things frustrating for a weekly customer like myself. I used to get a discount due to my business being located in the area and now that has changed too…Love the damn chicken though.Pros + Tasty Chicken, Nice beer selectionCons – Slow service, POOR Parking
