Where is the Best First Date Spot in San Francisco, California?
I picked this place as a special treat for my husband’s birthday. I had heard rave reviews on the Travel Channel the previous week and the website looked great. I made a reservation online. The website had some kind of glitch and never sent me the confirmation code. After doing this thrice, I called and confirmed my reservation. The place was easy to find. As we entered, we were greeted by 2 guys offering popcorn and candyfloss. We moved on to the host who could not find my reservation and kept asking me for my name until someone told him to just let us in. I loved his costume though. The bar was nice, living up to the over-the-top image. However, the bartender served me wine that had turned (they need to store their wine better than just keep open bottles around). I did get a new glass of wine upon bringing to his notice. We didn’t have to wait too long to be led into the main restaurant. At first, the space appears to be so much smaller than on the website or the Travel Channel. T
Just came home from Le Colonia – WE LOVED IT! Service was fantastic (ask for Daniel’s table). It was mother-in-laws 79th birthday. They brought out a dessert plate with Happy Birthday in chocolate – tall thin candle – was great. We took two kids (9 & 12) and two adults and one senior. No problem with older kids – they made extra effort for them. Great place for out of town guests. Decore nothing like you have seen before. Great lighting – everyone looks fantastic. Get the beef salad – could have eaten two. Not great for younger children (a older couple would not sit next to us – their loss). Was nervous about after reading very old reviews – they were all wrong. I will go back soon.Pros + great lighting, good food, easy parkingCons – hard to find, adults recommended
This is surprisingly fun, although in a creepy way. From Laughing Sal (a gigantic weirdly dressed woman who laughs uncontrollably) to the strange little scenes (especially the guillotine and hanging vignettes) this is truly unusual and not to be missed. After a few quarters, the silliness of it all leads to laughing out loud. There is one little scene that is called, I think, “End of the Road” that is so lame that we still recall it and laugh. Every time we are in the Fisherman’s Wharf area, we have to go here and drop a few quarters- and we never regret it. Seriously, these machines are very well mantained and historically interesting. Pros + well maintained, very interesting, easy parking, close to other attractions
