The Abbey is a solid bar, great place for night time drinks and desserts, a place to meet your friends, a quality lunch–and is downright huge, too. Despite its material success, the Abbey has kind of grown too big for its neighborhood–it took over about 4 buildings in ten years. It used to be the great little coffee house around the corner, but there is so much of it that it’s hard to describe the Abbey in a word or two. Is it a giant bar with a patio, a restaurant with a coffee shop in the front and a velvet rope or what? Definitely bring your friends from out of town. The food, staff and service are good. Prices are pretty good for WeHo and there is so much space that there are places to get lost with your friends and enjoy a good time. There is no convenient nearby parking and WeHo tickets. As an Abbey patron for over ten years, I feel it has lost some of its mojo.

I dined here last night and I have to say my expectations were very high. The cocktails were superb, as promised by many a review, as was the Mac & Cheese and that killer chocolate croissant bread pudding. Our server was good, but it was the manager/owner (?) who was very attentive and kept checking on us. We even added a side dish after we started our main course and he managed to get it out for us right away. OK, so here’s what we had: Heirloom Tomato Salad which had a perfectly balanced dressing and a generous portion of sliced, crisp red onion and tangy olives. Seared Foie Gras over walnut waffles with strawberry compote & vanilla creme friache. Ok, 2 out of three of us liked this one. The Foie was yummy but the the portion was far too small compared the the waffles and strawberries and it’s flavor was a bit overwhelmed by the waffles. I think this dish could work if the portions are adjusted. For entrees we had the Filet Mignon, the Pork Lion Cutlets and the Seared Maple

We went to the new one (on Helms Ave) on a weeknight. It had a really nice atmosphere and lots of people. We were there for a few hours (spent nearly $500) celebrating someone’s graduation and found out that they did not have desserts. Two in our party (of 12) went to the bakery next door for a few pastries and we were basically kicked out when we tried to eat them in the restaurant. We spoke to the manager and he said it was their strict policy. We would have gladly bought from them had they had desserts on the menu. And we had planned to keep buying beer and appetizers from their menu. So, this is not a good place to celebrate if you want anything sweet—they won’t even allow you to bring in a birthday cake.

This listing is wrong – they close at 8, not 10. Also, they don’t deliver but rather do pick up only. Food is decent. Not the best burger I’ve ever had, but many options. Don’t like the fries. Onion rings are good. Chicken sandwich is whatever. I’d eat there again, but I wouldn’t crave it or highly recommend.
