Where is the Best Gourmet Burger Deal in San Diego, California?

I had been meaning to check this place out, and get the 411 on what goes on over here. Upon entering, we were greeted by a very friendly host, who advised we MUST eat there. Upon his advisement, we sat down and had ourselves a meal. The menu had a decent selection of burgers, sandwiches, and other staple bar food. My party and I ordered the potato skins, the Guacamole burger, and specialty sandwich. The potato skins were pretty plain, of course they are potato skins. The Guacamole burger and specialty sandwich were excellent. The burger had a spicy guacamole on it, and it was a very hefty serving weighing in at 1/2 pound. The sandwich as well was on par with the burger in terms of it size, and the roast beef was moist and delicious. As far as aesthetics, it’s got a pretty hip vibe to it, though the music was a bit loud considering it was only lunch. The only real downfall of the meal was the service. Several people who had come in after us received their food before us. The

Bully’s is a classic watering hole, which may seem anachronistic these days. The food, however, is consistently good. I recommend the burgers, Nooner (flank steak sandwich) or Prime Rib sandwich. Each entree comes with 2 side dishes, which makes the meal a good value. The vegetables have, in my experience, always been cooked properly (i.e., not overcooked). You do need to specify how you want your steak cooked, bearing in mind that it sometimes comes cooked 1 level higher than you specify. Don’t order anything complicated or fancy. This is a steakhouse. If it’s broiled or grilled, you’ll be fine. The quality and speed of service is entirely dependent on your server. Unlike other reviewers, when I spoke to the manager about slow service on one visit, he handled things directly. Waits can be long and the place caters first and foremost to “regulars” so if you are an occasional guest you might find the wait annoying. If you’re in a rush, avoid peak hours or eat at the bar.

t’s pretty simple, really. A place with a sign “Under 99 billion Served” has to be pretty badass. We’ll if you’re lucky enough to see the sign (ace of base reference intended), you’re in a magical place called Hodad’s. Put simply, the burgers here might just be the most satisfying thing you’ve ever eaten. With a patty of bacon almost as big as the burger, the Hodad Bacon Cheeseburger is not to be passed up. Add to it an order of “Frings” (a basket of half fries and half uber beer battered onion rings) and a Dr. Pepper (so it’s not beer, but it goes pretty damn good with a bacon cheeseburger) and you’re good to go. Seriously, don’t mess with it. It’s amazing. Add to the great food a just general cool vibe … cue the license plates on the wall, a random drifter or two outside viciously playing air-guitar (come on, it’s Ocean Beach), and a $100 all you can eat offer on the menu. This might be the time to note that the burgers are like 6 bucks… but damn, it’s still tempting. So head on

I have never had a better bartender in San Diego. The service was exceptional, so friendly and comfortable but also polite. This place seems to have a ton of regulars which is always a good sign. I’ve only had sandwiches and oysters, but both were very good. The wine list is also quite nice and the servers are always willing to make recommendations. The bar, while small, has such a pleasant atmosphere, lots of conversation between the patrons and the guys behind the bar make this old school place the kind of dying breed I’m sad to see disappearing. Lunch or Happy Hour at Dobson’s can not possibly disappoint. Pros + Great Bar, GREAT serviceCons – Small
