Where is the Best Hamburger in New York, New York?

I remember the great “sliders” the Little Owl offered at the 2006 Taste of NY, so I had to check the place out – I started with the aforementioned slider – a concoction of meat, pork and veal (or lamb too??) and some special seasonings…and was gastronomically appeased by the troika of delectable meaty roundies in each order – truly the thing to get! then, throwing caution into the wind and my mar mitzvah money into the stove, I ordered the risoto with the special shaved white truffle; I just had to…never orally investigated that bit of bourgeois booty in the past….and for $48 a plate…should be memorable – well, the risoto was creamy and delectable and the truffle was…interesting….sorta a rich cheesy garlicky taste of sorts? I guess using some fine cheese and fresh garlic would have sufficed for alot less – it was and experience though. The main course was some kind of fried chicken item with some veg and that was nice but nothing to loose limbs over, dessert was a chocolat

I was in New York over the weekend to celebrate my birthday with my friends. A few came with me from Boston, a few live in the city. We had tried Angel Share for a split second, but left because the line for folks waiting was backed up to the door. It didn’t seem worth the wait. My friend from New York suggested the Smith. I am so glad he did.Three of us met at the bar and the bartender was cool, friendly and funny. He bought the sodas for my one (pregnant) friend who was not drinking which was just nice. We sat with a group of 7 and the hosts were very patient with us as we waited for our fragmented group to arrive via cab, train and foot. Steve, our server was just awesome. I didn’t feel like I was in the giant mecca that is New York City with him. He was totally cool, friendly, helpful, etc. He could have been my regular server at the local pub down the street from my house. Aside from the fact that the Smith has very cool, laid-back decor, plays really great music and

Fast food type burger joint serves ground-beef blend burgers with a multitude of topping choices, hand cut fries(and sweet fries) as well as shakes and Pints of Brooklyn Brews ($5). Close proximity to Madison Square Garden that gurantees a fast, casual, good eat before a game!Pros + Filling quality burgers

I’ll echo most sentiments here – nice, thick burger that comes out quickly – mine was medium well although I asked for medium rare…could have used more salt, cheap buns, and it’s a little smelly (like urinal/stale beer smell). The place looks/is more like a bar than a burger joint. Good burger but not going out of my way again- better burgers in order are: (1) Chelsea Grill (bigger more seasoned burger, cooked to perfection with better fries and better atmosphere) (2) Island Burgers – smaller but thicker -again, cooked to perfection and 1,000 topping suggestions – no fries though.(3) Le Parker Meridian – secret hotel burger – lines and not a great value (thin burger).(4) Burger place in Madison Sq Park – lines are ridiculous – thin but flavorful pattyI haven’t tried Paul’s in East Village but it’s next on my list.Pros + Good but not great burgerCons – Mild seasoning (salt), lack of consistency, cheap buns, smelly place
