I have been hooked on Curry House since I moved to Los Angeles 4 years ago. They always have the freshest ingredients. For those of you who have never tried japanese curry before, go for the “Katsu” Curry with mild, medium or hot curry. The corn soup they make is excellent as well! But I always like to start off with the shrimp and calamari tempura. Either way, everything about the Curry House is amazing and the portions are commendable. Enjoy the dishes with the red or white pickles. Stay away from imposters such as the one across the street! TABETERU!Pros + Great food. Amazing value. Delectable portions. Good service.

When it’s wet and raining, one of the things I crave are soups. One of my favorites is a big bowl of ramen from Daikokuya. Of course, the wait can be interminable since the place is rather small but once you sit down, the memory slips away. Yesterday, I walked in just around noon and the wait was a mere 15 minutes. However, it got busier as the afternoon wore on. I highly suggest one of the combos. I like the fried rice but the salmon roe is great too. I plan to get the shredded pork next! Daikokuya’s pork is gorgeous with rendered fat. It’s like wining a prize when found in the fried rice or I like to save it for the end with my ramen.The soup is always the best part. Gyu-Kaku is Japanese BBQ place where you are seated at a table with a grill where you can cook your own food. I found this concept of cooking your own food a little bit perplexing because I always thought that the reason that you go to a restaurant is so you don’t have to cook and can relax. However, I found the experience to be quite interesting and entertaining. It is a great idea for a date because it is actually pretty fun. When the food is served to you it is raw and the server gives a brief explanation of how to cook the food. The menu has a really good selection of different types of meats, vegetarian items, and side dishes. My wife and I ordered a dinner special for two which was basically a sampler of a bunch of different foods that Gyu-Kaku had to offer. All of the food that was included was very good except for one of the meats. Overall very good sushi. They have fresh wasabi thats worth the trip alone. I walked in with two ladies on Friday night without a reservation and we were seated right away. Much better than Koi or Sushi Roku. For the three of us it was $250 including a 20% tip. But let me tell you we ate and drank a lot. I suggest the spicy tuna, shrimp, crab, and black cod.
