Where is the Best Mediterranean Food in Portland, Oregon?

Alexis is a unique greek place that is very unasuming and gives the impression of being closed on the outside. Located on Burnside between Chinatown and the Portland Saturday Market, you will walk in a nice Greek eatery. The service was friendly and was reasonably attentive. We started off with humus and bread which both were very good. The humus had a nice level of garlic without being overbearing. The bread was great. We decided going simple and both had the lamb/beef gyros and spanikopita. The spanikopita was presented a little differently with the philo more of a topping and bottom vs the more commonly found stuffed triangles of philo. It was a pleasant suprise and very good. The gyro was very good and done on a different style pita than I’ve normally had. This was more of a hybrid between a tortilla and a typical pita used for gyros. It was good, none the less. The prices were reasonable. Aparently Alexis actually makes and distributes a lot of Greek food products

I AM A FOOD FANATIC AND ABSOLUTLY LOVE MY GREEK AND MIDDLE EASTERN CUISINE. THIS IS A GREAT PLACE TO STOP AND GRAB A QUICK BITE IF YOU ARE CRAVING SOME GOOD GREEK. THE SERVICE IS QUICK BUT SEATING IS LIMITED. THEY ALSO DO TAKE OUT ORDERS WHICH MIGHT SUIT YOU BETTER IF YOU ARE IN A RUSH. I ORDERED A LAMB GYRO W/ FETA AND IT WAS WHAT I WAS EXPECTING. NOT THE MOST EXCEPTIONAL GREEK FOOD I HAVE HAD (I EAT ALOT! FREQUENT MANY PLACES AROUND PORTLAND) BUT IT DID THE JOB AND PRICES ARE DECENT. THEY ALSO HAVE A FEW AISLES OF GROCERY WHERE THEY SELL SOME THINGS FROM OVER SEAS THAT YOU CANT BUY IN YOUR TYPICAL GROCERY STORE WHICH I LOVE BECAUSE I LOVE TO COOK. OVERALL I GIVE IT THE GREEN LIGHT TO STOP IN AND GRAB A BITE. ALSO I WAS WONDERING HOW THEIR SAGANAKI IS SO IF ANYONE HAS HAD IT LET ME KNOW…MAYBE I WILL HAVE TO GO TRY IT MYSELF.

True that sometimes the food can take a while (up to thirty five minutes), but every dish is cooked to order and well worth the wait. There is an extensive appetizer menu to help pass the time while you wait for your main entree. It is a little weird how the food trickles out one plate at a time, but it appears to be a vey small kitchen with not a lot of staff. Highly recommend the stuffed artichoke heart platter. This place is very friendly to omnivores and herbivores alike. The best time to go is off peak hours, the service, timing, and noise level are all improved at these times. Pros + Great selection for meat eaters, vegetarians, and vegans. Cons – Sometimes there is a little wait for a table.

My wife and I came across this place in some searches and hadn’t tried Lebanese food, so we thought we would give them a try for a late lunch during a trip. The place didn’t have a lot of diners at the time, so service was great. We both chose their Meat Mezza to get a variety of tastes. First off, the food took a little time to come, but wasn’t unreasonable considering the freshness of the food. Their taboule salad was fresh and vibrant of lemon and parsley. Their hummus and babba ghannouj were very good, with the hummus being our fave. They bring a puffed pita bread that was very good. Their falafel has a nice outer crust with deep flavors. The grape leaves were nice. Their kafta kabab (lamb) had a nice array of spices, but was not heavy handed, so you could taste more of the lamb. Their chicken shawarma reminded my of a terriyaki chicken in small pieces with a different type sauce. Was very good. I think we both would come back to Karam again. The prices were not out of line

the flatbread, yes! the rice, yes! the chicken, yes! i love this place. has kind of an unusual odor that i can’t quite place, and it’s always, ALWAYS elbow to elbow at the tables, but that only speaks for the quality of the food. people love it!
