A group of coworkers and I were treated to a unforgettable dinner at Farallon. The restaurant is true to the theme of Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. As you walk into the door, you’ll see jelly fish floating from the ceiling, and you’ll see sea decor throughout the bar area. We were escorted to a private room that felt like an officers dining hall. You know you’re in a special place. Looking out of the large windows, there is a large sea shell hanging from the ceiling above the other diners. We were lucky to choose from the regular dinner menu in contrast to a prix fix menu when dinning in a large group. Now I’ve started to read the book, “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.” My wife and I had the honors of choosing the wine: Capiaux, Gary’s Vineyard, 2007 Groth 2006 Pinot Noir Paradigm 2005, Cabernet Sauvignon Sauternes, Chateau Raymond Lafond 1986 For dinner, we ordered (and of course, we tried each other’s dishes): Lobster Bisque, amuse bouche, rich and creamy with the taste o

All of the dishes we ordered were delicious. For the 2 of us we got 3 small plates & 1 big plate & shared everything. The ?A La Mexicana? ceviche was one of the best I?ve ever had ? very fresh tasting! (Their ceviche is served with only 2 plantain chips so be sure to order a side of the chips if you want to eat the ceviche with something crunchy.) The cornmeal biscuits with melted cheese (Arepas de Queso) melted in my mouth & the Peruvian Chicken Empanadas were extremely flavorful. The Lomo Saltado was a great dish to share or order as an entree ? hearty & a great mix of flavors. The mini alfajores cookies they serve at the end of the meal are cute & tasty!!! Between the 2 of us we had 3 drinks which made the total: $40/person. A little pricey but worth the trip 🙂

We were in the City for a visit to the exploratorium and afterwards decided to swing over to the Wharf for dinner. It was a short walk when we spied Fishermen’s Grotto. This place has been there forever and the location can’t be beat. We walk in, though, and I felt the place was pretty cheezy. The lower level reminded me of those old Farrell’s ice cream parlors. Beat down. We sit down though and are delighted with prompt friendly service. The menu is filled with dishes that sound quite exciting. Prices are high, as can be expected for the location. Fresh sourdough bread is brought to the table immediately. And its good stuff. Very dense yet soft. I could have filled up on just this. I do wish they supplied some softer butter in a dish however, instead of the near-frozen packs of single-serving butter. I wasn’t too hungry so settled with a crab cake and a bowl of the creamy clam chowder. The wait wasn’t too long for the food. Crab cake looked solid yet it was so small fo

I have always wondered how Yabbies was, as it is right down the street from my apartment in Russian Hill.  A few weeks ago, the perfect excuse arose, as Groupon (highly recommend y’all look into this if you haven’t heard of it) had a $40 for $20 deal going on.  Now, every weekend (when I am frantically booking last minute dinner reservations) I have always noticed on opentable Yabbies seems to have a multitude of options for times.  While this can be a clear indicator not to go here, I figured to give it a shot since someone had told me it was pretty good. It’s a quaint little place with the raw bar right by the door when you walk in.  (There are several tables outside too if you’re trying to go for the al fresco vibe) We were seated immediately in the back which kind of gave us an overview of everything going on in the restaurant.  Our waiter was friendly, not too attentive, as I feel he was super busy.  At one point, he spilt oyster juice/water crap all over our table and failed to no

I understand that Crustacean did the upscale Vietnamese seafood thing first, but I don’t know if they’re still doing it best. With places like PPQ, Ana Mandara, Le Cheval, Slanted Door, The House, and Straits Cafe offering similar dishes at lower prices, Crustacean is now just one of many. With all that having been said, I loved the food and thought the service was good. The wine was good and not too overpriced. Our appetizers were just okay, the fried starters were very ordinary, but the vietnamese seafood salad was really good. For entrees we had a crab, shaking beef and sea bass. All were delicious, fresh and interesting. The mango cheesecake was a great way to end our meal.Pros + Fresh, Tasty Seafood with Bold FlavorsCons – Pricey, Parking is a Headache, Kind of Noisy
