Where is the Best Sushi in Oakland, California?

I’ve been going to Kamakura for 15 years and it is the example by which I judge all other Sushi places. The combination of sushi selection, quality and service is unmatched. Faith and her late husband Yama have always been excellent hosts. Faith never forgets to come by and talk and ask about my family. Whenever we sit at the sushi bar, the chefs always offer up some little tidbits of food to try and have great reccomendations of new items to try. They consistently have hard to find items at the sushi bar such as Toro, Hamachi Toro, Amaebi with the heads, Miragi and they even do a fresh Ikura that is the best I’ve ever had. My wife and I moved to Sacramento last year and have been unable to find a sushi bar that comes close to Kamakura. Whenever we’re back in the Bay Area, we make sure we stop at Kamakura. My only suggestion for improvement would be to bring back the hot towels.Pros + Sushi Selection, Faith YamatoCons – No more hot towels! Bring them back!!! Sometimes a long wait

I just don’t think it’s as good as people say. I’ve eaten my fair share of good Japanese food, and this is in slightly above average range. The sushi is by far better than anything else I’ve had in Berkeley, but again I don’t think that’s saying all that much. Been here several times, and it’s usually pretty crowded. Never sat there, but there’s a group table in the back, next to the bathrooms if you like that… Here’s my one bad experience. Ordered one of the grilled fish items. I’m not a picky eater, but it came out like fish jerky. There’s a time and place for a good, dry smoked fish, but this wasn’t it. What made it really bad is that the waitress tried to defend the place by saying that this was how the fish came out, even though other restaurants that make a similar dish make it moist and flakey. That was honestly her justification. For a good 2-3 minutes she went on about it, and then the same thing when she came back with another item we ordered. Pretty comical…Pros + G

Love.. Love.. Love! Totally in love with this restaurant. Where should i begin? First, the price is unbeatable. Second, the food is extremely delicious (some of my favorite are Caterpillar & Rainbow Roll, Nabeyaki & Teriyaki Udon, Salmon Bento). Last, great service & lovely atmosphere. I never been to other lunch spot in downtown who offer better customer service with a beautiful small garden right in front . My company always order catering from them since 2 years ago and never face any disapointment at all. I’m highly recomment this restaurant.Pros + Great Value for Affordable Price & Food Quality. Beautiful Ambiance & Great Service.Cons – During busy hour, you might have to wait in line to order ( I never wait more than 5 minutes, it goes very quick). But it is totally worth it.

From the moment I walked into this exquisitely humble restaraunt I was greeted with a “hello”, a head nod, a “welcome”, or a japanese phrase by every single employee I crossed whether they were at a table or not. The staff has a way of making you feel very VIP from the valet to the manager retrieving our coat check. I’ve been a server in the Napa Valley for many years and have just moved to SF to continue in this industry. Restaraunts are a second nature to me, a home away from home. Being taken care of without knowing anyone to “hook it up” is exceptional and comforting. The food: simply delicious. Although expensive and quaintly portioned, I enjoyed my entire meal. There were three of us, all in the industry. The reason for the absence of my 5th star is the service we experienced. Our server, whose name was David, started out by asking if we had dined previously at Ozumo. After saying this was our first time he proceeded to tell us that they “kick a$$ here” and that he would “show u

There was once a time when I could justify tolerating a clueless restaurant staff that does not understand the basics of seating and quality customer service, in order to enjoy moderately priced and average quality fish. However, now that they have raised their prices, there is no real reason for putting up with the extremely long waits and often negligent staff (with the exception of a few stellar ladies who have been there for a while). This establishment has been struggling with its management since day one and now with the increased prices they really need to make some improvements to subsidize the lower economical advantages that used to be it’s claim to fame. Maybe the owners should hire a consultant. Oh also try to avoid going in parties larger than four as they have a horrible time figuring out how to accomidate your party and you’ll end up waiting even longer than it might seem when reading these reviews.Pros + Even though prices are on the rise, they are still competitive
