I had to write this review just to describe how amazing the porterhouse pork chop is. It is by far the best pork chop I have ever tasted. It taste like it was smoked with apple wood and has a very flavorful glaze. Not to mention that it was cooked to perfection. No overcooked pork here. It was also served with tasty mashed potatoes with some kind of delicious mustard sauce. You can not go to this restaurant without having this dish. I also had the fired green tomatoes which are good. I think the blue cheese ?dressing? makes the dish. The fried oysters were also quite tasty. I have been a loyal customer of this little restaurant since it first opened. The Dharma Cafe to me is maybe more notable for what’s missing than for what is there-what’s missing is a predictable corporate layout with lot’s of pre-packaged food from Sysco or some other megalith food purveyor, mind numbing music played so loud as to require you shout your order to the server, and most importantly, isolated, disassociated, and uncaring staff. What you will find at the Dharma Cafe is consistently great food, which is always fresh and flavorful. The atmosphere is delightful, and to the great credit of Susan and John, you can dress up or dress down as the whim suits you and feel just as at home in either attire. I am constantly impressed with the unique and creative creations that John and Susan come up with. Their menu is always evolving and the specials remain enticing and satisfying. After reading several wonderful comments about Cafe Le Jadeite, we gave it a try for the first time. The menu and style of the restaurant were quite different from what I expected, even after reading several comments. The dinner menu is a blend of fusion style dishes, with entrees such as Osso Bucco, Lamb Tenderloins, Seared Scallops, and Chinese dishes. The atmosphere is very ornately asian, and the wine menu is very extensive, with most choices bordering expensive, to very expensive. We sampled Mu Shu pork and the Calamari as starters, both of which were excellent. Then we ventured into trying two of the soups; I had the Pumpkin Seafood soup, while my fiancee had the Wonton Soup. Both soup offerings were really incredible. We both opted for having Osso Bucco for dinner, which was a fantastic blend of slow-cooked beef with a delicate tomato-based rice, served hot on a square plate ornately laced with small dots of a creamy spinach sauce. Went on a Tuesday night with a business colleague. I’ve eaten here about 5 times in the last 15 years but this review is based on my most recent experience. The atmosphere is pretty hip. The menu options were good. Lots of continental types of cuisine with strong Asian influences (e.g., pork dumplings, Udon noodles). The wine selections went beyond California Chardonnay and Napa Valley Cabernet. We enjoyed a reasonably priced Mer Soleil Chardonnay (unoaked, Central Coast) that complemented our food nicely. My appetizer was a modern take on Fried Green Tomatoes and my dining companion had some Asian pork dumplings. Both were pretty tasty…but not “perfect.” The entrees were a Daily Special pork chop (Berkshire Farms?) and scallops. Both were very good…but not quite excellent.
