My friends and I were going to a show at the El Portal Theater and wanted a place to dine before the show.We decided on Eclectic because we could walk to the theater after dinner. We ended up having the BEST time. It is sort of an artsy, jazzy wine bar with a GREAT VIBE!. The place seemed very “New York-y” Our server was really nice. The food was really good. I had the Calamari -which was more of a calamari steak that was pan fried…not the usual deep fried rings you get at other places- it was tender and very nicely prepared. for my entree, I had the Mahi-Mahi. It was came with a white wine caper sauce. It tasted really fresh. The best part, was the wine flight. They had several, I chose the Latitia flight. It was fun to get to taste several different wines from the same winery. I thought their wine selection was really good, not your run of the mill wines. We didn’t have dessert on this visit. My first review on a place that is to die for!!! I am a vegetarian, vegan when I can be .. my boyfriend on the other hand is not! It’s always a challenge to find good eats that will meet both of our needs.I’ve eaten here a million times and thought I just might be able to pull one over on him because it’s that good!!! One night I pulled out the menu and said let’s have Thai tonight! After scanning the menu he decided on the Green Curry with “Chicken” … little did he know … nor does he still know .. it’s not really chicken! He LOVED it. We will forever be fans and keep going back for more!!Pros + They deliver and they are fast!Cons – Parking in LA is never that great when valet does not exist.

I have been going to The Spot off and on for years. I grew up in the South Bay but didn’t discover it until I went vegan 4 years ago. Now I travel back to my old stomping grounds as often as possible to eat the always consistant, hearty, and healthy food at The Spot! Last time I went I purchased the cookbook and have been eating the Mexorama everyday this week. Anything is delicious with the savory sauce smothered on top. I usually get the savory steamer but this last time the super helpful waiter suggested the mexorama (which is my usual with pinto beans too) and I am hooked. The pinto beans are wonderfully seasoned, not spicy but not just plain beans either. Go visit this restaurant! It has such a feeling of community about it. Yes it is cash only but they will accept personal checks if you forget (which sometimes I do!).
