LOVE this place. The owner, the bartender girl and other waitress were super nice and cool. We did not need to “consult our banker” or “park the Brinks truck outside” – a fresh, welcoming experience not found on the Westside. This is quality food, no B.S. or counterfeit. Interior reminds me of somewhere cool you’d find in San Fran or NYC. The location is entirely weird (in a has-been small Hollywood strip mall, next to the clinically-well-lit laundromat). A very unromantic curbside appeal – no valet, you park yourself and wonder if LOU is even open for business – a dark curtain hanging inside keeps this gem private and the interior view protected. Once you open the door, you are transported out of LA, and will feel trivial for having ever judged it by the exterior. The place was full house, but the noise level was minimal. We were able to enjoy conversation within the dimly lit room. Tables o.k., a little cramped, could be worse. Bar has limited seating, maybe 4 seats. Sma

The menu made me laugh and then made me very, very happy. The fact that I could order The Must Meaty (soy) Hamburger Helper and a Colt 45 in a paper bag intrigued me. So I went with the Hamburger Helper and wine (I’m not that hipster). The dish was some of the best comfort food I’ve had- more like a vegetarian version of beef stroganoff. If that wasn’t enough to make me a fan, the wall paper in the bathroom gave this review one of it’s own stars. Pin up girls flying through the air on hotdogs, sipping wine. Now that’s my kind of loo. The service was friendly, the atmosphere was relaxed and fun. And street parking was easy (found a spot on the same block), which really means a lot to me in LA. Go, eat, drink, enjoy, powder your nose!Pros + fun menu & atmosphereCons – risky menu options like fluffernutter (but some loved it)

We tried Vin Bar for the first time Saturday night and it is a great option when you want a casual dining experience. Portion size was generous – we did splits, the food was excellent and the Vin Bar wines are wonderful plus reasonable in price. The crudo plate was perfect – tuna with a pineapple dressing, yellowtail with cucumber and Baltic salmon with orange, salmon caviar and black caviar. Fried baby Squid in a cone with Aioli sauce – a very, very generous portion and delicious Sweet Corn filled Ravioli with Farmer’s Market vegetables (zucchini, asparagus, cherry tomatoes) with tomato coulis and baked Ricotta cheese – the veggies were just perfect Grilled Red Snapper with tomatoes, caper berries and cauliflower puree – excellentCheese Plate A great option when you want a casual dining experience with excellent wine, food and service.

Not the best wine bar you’ve ever been to, but the staff are nice, the wines are decent and the food’s pretty good. There are lots of tables, couches and a bar at which to hang around and a patio. Place gets crowded on weekends, but it’s a good spot for a quick cheese plate or hummus appetizer before a movie. All wine is $8 a glass or $30 a bottle and some are better values than others, but if you go on Wednesday night, all bottles are $20.
