The Village is located 22 miles south of Chicago s “Loop.” Neighboring communities include Markham and Harvey to the north, Homewood to the east, Flossmoor to the south, and Country Club Hills to the west. The Village is twelve miles from Lake Michigan and seven miles from the Illinois-Indiana border. In 1990 the U. S. Census reports the Village had a population of 13,973.
