Find appraisers in the yellow pages under antiques. Get a few appraisals but make it clear that you will pay for the appraisal but are not going to sell to them or they will give you too low an appraisal. Sixty Minutes did a show where they took an item to several different antique stores and the store owners all undervalued the item when the item was offered to them for purchase. You can check on e-bay for comparable items. You might try to sell it on eBay. Since it is a valuable item put a reserve on it. You can also take it to a good auction house.
