The 4.1 earthquake struck at 10:09 a.m. local time with an epicenter just to the east of the Calaveras Reservoir, 6 miles from Milpitas and 11 miles ESE of Fremont. With a relatively shallow depth of 11 km (6.8 miles), the quake was felt as far away as San Francisco, Santa Cruz and Stockton.
