Where were the prisoners of alcatraz transferred to?

There were many older (and more secure) prisons in California, including San Quentin. SQ is right across the Bay from Alcatraz and now houses the State’s only death row (for men). San Quentin was initially set up as a women’s institution. It transitioned to half women and half men and now it is an all-male facility.
