Which animals are known as “ships of the desert”?

The dromadary (single hump) camel as it is the one native to the desert. The bacitrin (double hump) (and I’m not sure of my spelling on these so be gentle) is found in Asia and less able to sustain itself in the desert. At least this is as I recall from an old discovery channel show.
