Hands down, San Antonio is the place for you! Everything you are looking for is here; quiet life style, you are right in the center of the texas hill country which can mean great views and nice yards, there are several affordable schools to work on your BA, for your kids the Northeast independent school district is considered one of the best school disritcts in the country and whether you are renting or buying you can find very affordable homes. I grew up in Austin, which I love, but it may be to expensive and the traffic is terrible. Great food, and great entertainment (live music capital of the world) Houston is so spead out and while I am sure you might be able to find an area that would suit you traffic is again bad no matter what time of day or where you are going. For an extremely laid back feel and ocean living you might consider Corpus Christi (I lived here for 7 years where I recieved my BA). Corpus is right on the Gulf of Mexico.
