Only one: Latin is spoken in Vatican City (which is actually a country all by itself). Latin is spoken in some of the higher circles of the Roman Catholic hierarchy in other areas The so-called Romance languages are derived from Latin, but they are definitely NOT actually Latin. The Romance languages include Italian, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Romanian, and Romansch, which is spoken in some areas of Switzerland. About half of the English language is derived from Latin through the French language. EDIT EDIT It is unfortunate that Latin is no longer taught in high schools in the USA. It can be a very useful adjunct to one's education. There is a short poem which I found in the Latin for Dummies book. You may enjoy it. Latin is a language As dead as it can be. First it killed the Romans and now it's killing me.
