Which dance style causes the least amount of long term injuries – jazz, ballet, tap?

Tap would be the least dangerous. It has the least amount of jumps and leaps, especially at a beginning level. Ballet would be the style with the largest potential for injury, but this would occur more at an advanced level. Jazz would be in between. At a beginner level none of these types of dance is any more dangerous than the other. Many dance schools suggest students start with ballet to learn how to take instruction and body movement. Ballet costumes seem to be the most expensive, but it is going to depend on the dance school. If the children are young and growing the shoes are going to be expensive to replace every year or more often. Ballet shoes are the cheapest of the bunch. This may not be a popular answer but I am an adult and I took 9 years of ballet, 7 of tap, 7 of jazz, and 2 years on pointe. I really wish my parents would have made me learn an instrument instead. At least that is something I could still do today.
