Which famous inventor inspired the national holiday Inventors Day?
In order to recognize the enormous contributions inventors have made in the nation, February 11 was designated National Inventor’s Day in 1983. The date is the anniversary of the birth of inventor Thomas Edison, who held more than 1,000 patents. “Inventors are the keystone of the technological progress that is so vital to the economic, environmental, and social well-being of this country,” said then-President Ronald Reagan in his Inventor’s Day proclamation speech. “Such recognition is especially appropriate at a time when our country is striving to maintain its global position as a leader in innovation and technology. Key to our future success will be the dedication and creativity of inventors.
