Which ferrous metal is used to make a kitchen sink ?

Some interesting answers, perhaps this should help clear up some of the confusion. Ferrous, in the chemical science realm, indicates a bivalent iron compound (+2 oxidation state) (as opposed to ferric, which indicates a trivalent iron compound (+3 oxidation state)). Outside of chemical science, ferrous is an adjective used to indicate the presence of iron. The word is derived from the Latin word ferrum (iron). Ferrous metals include steel and pig iron (which contain a few percent of carbon) and alloys of iron with other metals (such as stainless steel.) Metallic kitchen sinks are normally constructed of stainless steel. Steel is an alloy consisting mostly of iron, with a carbon content between 0.2% and 2.04% by weight, depending on grade. Stainless steels and surgical stainless steels contain a minimum of 10% chromium, often combined with nickel, to resist corrosion (rust). Some stainless steels are magnetic, while others are nonmagnetic. After all that I would say the answer to your q

Generally these days kitchen sinks re made of stainless steel but in earlier years they were made of deep drawing enamelling grade mild steel and then stove enamelled:which in basics means they were pressed into shape from soft iron sheet, pickled and cleaned, then coated with a glassy powder and heated to a temperature where the glassy powder melted and formed a perfect coloured glass coating over the steel( baths and car body panels were made in the same way).many of these sinks and baths are still in use today,40 years on.
