Probably most common is a displacement type meter, e.g., a vane meter. Ultrasonic meters require a very careful installation & stable conditions, i.e., the pipework to & from it needs to be straight & free from anything that could cause turbulence. Even then they're not the best when you need to know exactly what volume you're delivering, i.e., bunkering a ship. An orifice meter is definitely not what you need as it operates on pressure differentials across an orifice which restricts the flow. In any case they're not all that accurate at varying flow rates.  more
