Which integrated driver is most suitable to drive unipolar/bipolar stepper motors?
Bipolar stepper motors: Four half bridges are necessary to drive a bipolar stepper motor. This can be achieved using one ATA6836, see figure 1. Unipolar stepper motor: Four outputs are necessary to drive a unipolar stepper motor. With a T6816, it is possible to drive up to three unipolar stepper motors simultaneously, see figure 2.
