Which is better: acetaminophen, aspirin, ibuprofen, or naproxen sodium to relieve a bad (non-migraine) headache?

Naproxen sodium is the strongest thing out there, according to my pharmacist. It’s what I use almost exclusively. If I don’t have it on hand, I go to ibuprofen next.

Acetaminophen is best on simple pain. Ibuprofen and Naproxen sodium, both non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, are good on a wider range of causes of pain such as injuries and muscle spasms, since they reduce the inflammation that causes the pain. Headache can be caused by a number of things, including eyestrain, muscle tension, caffeine withdrawal and so forth. If it’s a caffeine issue, you might be better off with a cup of coffee for now and weaning yourself onto decaf in the long term.

Ibuprofen works the best for me. Naproxen is completely worthless in my opinion.

Naproxen sodium is ineffectual (It doesn’t do anything, at all). I am allergic to Ibuprofen….. I prefer Acetaminophen or an Acetaminophen/Aspirin mix.
