Which is more energy efficient: a gas clothes dryer, or an electric dryer?

The cost per therm is almost always lower for gas so an electric dryer will cost more to operate. Offsetting that to some extent is the fact that electric dryers are less expensive to purchase and perhaps less expensive to install, especially if you are in a part of the country where gas is not routinely run to homes. Speaking of efficiency only, electric is more efficient. Electricity is converted to heat at 100%. Gas needs air flow for combustion and a lot of the heat is wasted up the chimney.
