Which is more environmental friendly? Paper napkins or hand dryer?
At first glance this appears to be a catch .22 question. If you use paper napkins, the trees (a totally renewable resource) must be cut down, and milled to make the napkins. Then the napkins must be distrbuted to the places they are used, using even more fossil fuels. Electric hand dryers use electric, which depending on the location may be using fossil fuel, solar, wind, or hydro to generate the power. At first glance the electric hand dryer seems to be the better option. However it needs to be looked at from the medical aspect as well. How many people have been in a bathroom with electric hand dryers and seen snott nosed kids pounding on the button over and over again? Are you sure the person before you who has Hepititis washed their hands REALLY well, and left no fecal matter on the button?
