Depends on what your priorities for the property are. Gumtree and the classified sections will be the cheapest but will involve by far the most research and leg work. Plus you need to be careful as there are no controls on who advertises there. For the gumtree route you have to be willing to see a lot of bad property and be ready to put your money on the diamond straight away. Be careful also as some agents market on the sly there, I would only go for the properties with pictures and free yourself a morning, hammer the phones and be ready to view within minutes as the good properties go very quickly. An agent can take most of the leg work out, virtually all London agents market on the big three websites, Rightmove.com, Primelocation and FindaProperty. So you don’t even need to contact them and hand over details to see what they have available.
