Which makes the appearance of rust faster sea water or salt solution?
Sea water is salty. So, sea water is in fact a salt solution with a few other things in it. So, the amount of salt in the solution is a factor to corrosion. It is easy to know what the percentage of salt in a solution if you make it up, or use one of the various chemical analysis methods to discover the percentage. Sea water is a bit more complicated. Each body of water has a different average salinity. It will have different salts in it, say like Magnesium Chloride as well as the more abundant Sodium Chloride. So, there is allot of variation of how quick seawater will produce rust compared to a salt solution. I propose an experiment. If you can find someone near an ocean which can get some seawater, ask them to determine the salinity in the seawater by use of a refractometer or help with their local chemistry teacher. Pet stores with aquariums might be willing to measure this for you. Make a salt solution similar to the seawater. Get two identical items and clean them both so they hav
