Yes. It can have an effect on both of those. Particularly birth control pills it -definitely- stops from working properly. Based on how it interferes with medications (CYP3A4 induction) if I were to pick any two random medications on the planet, St. John’s Wort would have a serious interaction with one of them. A bare minimum of 50% of medicines are broken down by CYP3A4, and the way St. John’s Wort works can actually be life threatening if you’re taking certain seizure medications, antibiotics, or blood pressure medications. It depends on what the inhaler is. Because most inhalers are locally acting, the clearance of the medication by the liver isn’t as much of an issue as it is with many others.
