Which meditation technique is the best for calming down the mind?
It may depend on what ‘s on your mind. If you are dealing with emotions, or have more passionate thoughts, then methods that get to your mind through your body are probably the most effective: Any kind of catharsis (rebirthing, Osho’s meditations like Dynamic or Kundalini), and also many alternative therapies (shiatsu and the like) could be excellent. If it’s more about focusing your mind, having it stray less, then I would recommend vipassana. It can work on emotions as well, of course, but it’s much more subtle – so it’s best to use it after you’ve already dealt with “the bigger and coarser issues”. It’s kind of like organizing your furniture first, and then cleaning the room.
